¨The Summer in Maryland Program at Towson University provides the opportunity for students from overseas to come to the United States to improve their conversational English while experiencing American life and culture

Life at Towson
Students come to Towson University from across the country and around the world

Many attractions are located right in the heart of Towson, minutes from campus, or are a short drive away in downtown Baltimore

The University’s beautifully landscaped 328-acre campus is located in the suburban community of Towson, Maryland

It is in a convenient location to stores, theaters and many other attractions, and is eight miles north of downtown Baltimore and 55 miles (one hour) from Washington, D.C.

3 Weeks Program Overview

English Proficiency Test
An English proficiency test is administered by the University’s English Language Center

Helps teachers provide appropriate classroom placement based on each participants individual level of proficiency

Intensive English
Intensive English language instruction taught by professional instructors at the University’s English Language Center

More than 60 hours of instruction included

Students attend classes weekday mornings and weekly conversation and service learning activities with Americans to improve general speaking skills

The Summer in Maryland Program attracts students from many different countries, providing opportunity to practice English and cross-cultural learning with their peers

Community and Service
Provides enriching experiences, allowing students to communicate, learn, and help locally as well as grow on a personal level

Projects may include planting trees, building homes, or teaching others about one’s unique culture

Towson University Resources & Services
Access to Towson University services including:

Homestay Weekend
Students are paired with local-area families to experience living in an American home

Opportunity for cross-cultural sharing, English conversation and outside-the-classroom learning

The homestay experience is frequently considered one of the highlights as lasting friendships are formed

Accommodations & Meals
Program participants will stay on campus at the Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel

Buffet lunches are provided weekdays at Glen Dining Hall, where students can choose from a variety of menus and eat as much as they desire

Towson University/Academic Credit
Two (2) Towson University credits earned at the completion of the program

These credits may be transferrable to a home institution

A certificate of completion is awarded by the Towson University International Contracts Office
